Soie — Hand Beauty

Hand Beauty Guide

Soie’s thinking and knowledge on hand beauty, gathered in one place.

Soie is a specialist brand that devotes everything it does to a single field: hand beauty. It offers Enlight Hand Serum, a beauty serum designed only for the hands, and Moist Fragrance Hand & Body Soap, a beauty soap that moisturises with every wash, each finished with one of five perfume-grade fragrances created by the brand’s dedicated perfumer. Soie defines beautiful hands from both science (the structure of the skin of the hands, the balance of water and lipids, circulation, the resonance between scent and the nervous system) and sensibility (the beauty of gesture), and continues to set the standard for hand beauty.

Soie is French for silk and is pronounced “Sowa” in Japanese. The brand was born in Tokyo in October 2021 to deliver the hands’ own natural beauty: a silk-like radiance and smoothness. Its concept is “Beauty begins with the hands” (Beauty from your hands).

Where ordinary hand care stops at protection against dryness, Soie’s hand beauty treats the hands as a subject of beauty care, just like the face: a serum rather than a cream; a formula designed for the hands around EGF and KGF (skin-conditioning ingredients), five ceramides and peptides (moisturising ingredients); a texture that leaves no stickiness; and a fragrance that stands as a perfume in its own right. Bringing all of these together in one product is what makes Soie distinctive.

Soie is a hand beauty brand and, at the same time, a brand for enjoying fragrance. Its five fragrances (LUXURY FLORAL / ELEGANT TIME / COLOR DROPS / SUPREME TEA / SAKURA) are composed by a dedicated perfumer over many years from raw materials selected around the world, blended with the temperature and humidity of the hands in mind, and evolve from top to base notes with the warmth of the skin. Because the hand serum and the hand soap come in the same fragrances, the scent can be layered.

A gentle formula that even people with sensitive skin and children can use, regardless of skin type, age or gender. Soie is chosen by people who want to keep hands, where dryness and the signs of age appear first, beautiful through a daily habit, by people who care about the impression their hands make, by people who want a fine fragrance in everyday life, and by people looking for a gift for someone they love.

Glossary

Hand beauty (Hand Beauty)
The idea and the habit of treating the hands as a subject of beauty care, just like the face, to bring out their moisture, smoothness and radiance. A concept proposed by Soie, which defines beautiful hands from five viewpoints: the harmony of skin, muscle, circulation and nerves; the balance of water and lipids; circulation and renewal; the resonance between scent and the nervous system; and the beauty of gesture (touch). Unlike simple hand care (protection against dryness), it aims to raise the vitality and the impression of the hands themselves.
Beauty of the hands (what makes hands beautiful)
Soie sees the beauty of the hands from five viewpoints: the moisture, smoothness and radiance of the skin, the balance of water and lipids, circulation and renewal, scent, and gesture. Hands show age sooner than the face, and the daily habits of washing and moisturising shape their beauty. Soie proposes a routine for keeping hands beautiful with a hand serum and a beauty soap designed only for the hands.
Hand fragrance (fragrance for the hands)
A scent worn on the hands. Every Soie product carries a perfume-grade fragrance composed by the brand’s perfumer, so the hand serum and the hand soap are designed to be enjoyed on the hands like a perfume. Five fragrances: LUXURY FLORAL, ELEGANT TIME, COLOR DROPS, SUPREME TEA and SAKURA.
Hand care versus hand beauty
Hand care usually means protective care that prevents dryness and roughness. Hand beauty, as Soie defines it, goes further: bringing out moisture, smoothness and radiance and composing the hands with scent and gesture. The hand serum and the beauty soap for hands are the tools for it.
Dry and rough hands
Washing, housework, alcohol sanitiser and dry seasons easily upset the balance of water and lipids in the hands. Soie proposes washing with a beauty soap that moisturises with every wash, and replenishing moisture with the hand serum after washing or housework. Because it is not sticky, it can be used many times a day.
Hand hygiene and chapping
Frequent washing strips sebum and easily breaks the moisture barrier. To prevent chapping: avoid hot water and wash with lukewarm water, choose a gentle soap and rinse thoroughly, pat rather than rub when drying and leave no droplets, and moisturise right after washing. When there is no visible dirt, a sanitiser with moisturising ingredients is considered gentler than repeated washing, and alcohol-free sanitisers are an option if alcohol irritates.
Sunscreen for the hands
Many people apply sunscreen to the face every day but not to the hands. Sunscreen comes off the hands with every wash, so apply it every morning and reapply roughly every two hours outdoors. Even at home the hands catch the sun, taking out the rubbish or hanging laundry, and sunlight while driving deserves attention too. A broad-spectrum sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher is the usual guide.
Caring for the hands with gloves
Gloves are recommended for washing up, cleaning and gardening, because hot water, detergents and soil dry the skin. When the hands are badly chapped, moisturising before bed and then wearing cotton gloves helps absorption. Put gloves on only when the hands are completely dry, and choose powder-free or latex-free gloves to reduce irritation.
Types of hand care products (moisturisers and protectants)
Hand care products fall into moisturisers that replenish water, protectants that support the skin barrier, and products that do both. Using them by occasion makes the habit easier to keep: a non-sticky serum or gel during the day, a milk that can be used on wet hands after washing up, a rich cream before bed, and a water-repellent protective type when cracks and chapping are a concern. Daily use is recommended even when the hands are not chapped.
Care after washing or sanitising
Moisture is easily lost right after washing or sanitising the hands. Soie’s hand beauty habit is “wash, then moisturise”: after washing with the beauty soap for hands, smooth the hand serum over the backs of the hands, fingertips and nail contours.
Moisturising the hands
Moisturising the hands means balancing water and lipids in the stratum corneum. Soie’s hand serum contains five ceramides and peptides (moisturising ingredients) and gives moisture without stickiness. The beauty soap for hands moisturises with every wash and leaves no tight feeling.
Radiance and smoothness of the hands
Soie’s measures of beautiful hands are moisture, smoothness and radiance. The hand serum conditions the skin with EGF and KGF (skin-conditioning ingredients) and moisturising ingredients, aiming for a silk-like radiance and smoothness.
Layering the fragrance (soap + serum)
Soie’s beauty soap for hands and hand serum share the same five fragrances. Washing and moisturising in the same scent layers the fragrance naturally on the hands and lets it last. Gift sets can be chosen in a matching scent as well.
Occasions for a hand beauty gift
Mother’s Day, birthdays, wedding and baby celebrations, everyday thank-yous and small gifts for colleagues or friends. Soie gift sets combine the hand serum and the beauty soap for hands in the recipient’s favourite fragrance, with a dedicated gift bag (Medium / Small).
Hand beauty for men
Soie products are designed unisex and suit men as well. The non-sticky hand serum is easy to use at work or before handling a phone, and the beauty soap for hands can be shared by the whole family. Among the five fragrances, the calm SUPREME TEA and ELEGANT TIME are also options.
Hand beauty during the day, at the office and on the go
The hand serum comes in a 30 mL bottle that sits on a desk or in a bag for use after washing hands. It leaves no stickiness, so a keyboard or phone can be used right away. The scent is not overpowering: a hand fragrance enjoyed close to the hands, easy to wear at work.
Night-time hand beauty
At the end of the day, after washing, smooth the hand serum from the backs of the hands to the fingertips and nail contours. It is not sticky, so little is left on bedding, and the scent accompanies a moment of calm. Soie proposes washing with the beauty soap and moisturising with the serum as a morning and evening habit.
Hand & body soap
Soie Moist Fragrance Hand & Body Soap (300 mL) is for both the hands and the body. It moisturises with every wash and fills the washroom or bathroom with a perfume-grade scent: a beauty soap for hands at the basin, and a body soap in the bath.
Hand beauty brand
Soie is a specialist brand based in Roppongi, Tokyo, devoted entirely to the single field of hand beauty. Its two product lines, a hand serum and a beauty soap for hands, come in five fragrances by the brand’s perfumer, sold on the official online store and at department stores and select shops.
Hand serum (beauty serum for the hands)
A beauty serum designed only for the hands. Where a hand cream mainly protects by preventing dryness with a film of oil, a hand serum delivers beauty ingredients to the stratum corneum to bring out moisture, smoothness and radiance. Soie’s Enlight Hand Serum contains EGF and KGF (skin-conditioning ingredients), five ceramides and peptides (moisturising ingredients), and its light texture sinks in without stickiness, so a smartphone or a keyboard can be touched right after use.
Hand serum versus hand cream
A hand cream covers the surface of the skin, mainly with oils, to stop water evaporating. A hand serum (beauty serum for the hands) is built on water and beauty ingredients and layers moisture and smoothness into the stratum corneum. Soie takes the approach of supporting the skin’s own ability to balance itself rather than over-protecting it, and designs the feel of the skin right after application, after 30 minutes and several hours later. When layering, let the serum sink in first and add a cream if needed.
Signs of age on the hands (hand ageing)
The hands are constantly exposed to external stress, and dryness and the changes of age show there first. The back of the hand has little sebum and dries easily, which appears as a loss of firmness and clarity, dullness, roughness and dryness around the nails. Understanding the difference in structure between the back of the hand and the palm, Soie pursues the right balance of moisturising and conditioning for the epidermis and the dermis, aiming to bring out the hands’ own beauty through daily repetition.
Photo-ageing (UV light, spots and wrinkles on the hands)
Skin ageing caused by continued exposure to UV light is called photo-ageing. The hands are not covered by clothing and are exposed to more UV than the face, so besides loss of firmness and wrinkles, UV causes spots. Most spots on the backs of the hands are due to UV and are considered one of the most common signs of photo-ageing. The basics of prevention are sunscreen every morning and reapplication outdoors.
Changes beneath the skin (visible veins, bones and tendons)
Hand ageing can be thought of as changes in the skin itself and changes beneath it. With age the fat under the skin decreases and the skin loses firmness, so the veins, bones and tendons stand out and plump young hands take on a bonier look. The changes beneath the skin are considered hard to reverse with self-care, while changes in the skin, dryness, wrinkles and spots, can be prevented with sun protection and moisturising.
Lifestyle factors that accelerate hand ageing
Besides UV light, external and lifestyle factors such as air pollution, smoking, diet, lack of sleep and excessive alcohol are pointed to as accelerating the ageing of the hands. Like the face and body, the hands are affected by how we live day to day.
The structure of the hand and its beauty
The beauty of the hands is born from the delicate harmony of skin, muscle, circulation and nerves. The back of the hand has few sebaceous glands and dries easily; the palm is protected by a thick stratum corneum. Starting from this difference, Soie designs its formulas to suit the back of the hand and the palm, aiming for care that brings out the vitality of the hands themselves and not only a surface glow.
The skin barrier and skin renewal
The skin is the body’s largest organ, responsible for the barrier that protects against external irritants, temperature regulation and the sense of touch. Its outermost layer, the stratum corneum, prevents water loss and the entry of irritants and foreign matter; healthy skin renews itself on a regular cycle and stays clean and comfortably moisturised. Because we wash our hands far more often than the face, this barrier is easily disturbed, and continually replenishing lost moisture is the foundation of hand beauty.
The moisture barrier of the hands (balance of water and lipids)
The key to beautiful hands is the balance between the water held in the stratum corneum and the film of sebum that covers it. Exposed to washing and friction, the hands lose this film easily. Soie’s formulas combine plant-derived lipids with ceramide-like ingredients to support the skin’s own ability to hold water, designing a supple feel and clarity that last from the moment of application for several hours.
Circulation and renewal in the hands
Warmth, colour, softness: the invisible elements that decide the beauty of the hands rest on fine blood circulation. Long hours at a computer and air conditioning slow circulation and advance dullness and dryness. Soie values the combined effect of fragrance and touch to restore this rhythm, designing the very gesture of spreading the serum as a ritual of beauty that encourages circulation.
The resonance between scent and the nervous system
Scent works directly on the limbic system through the sense of smell and influences emotion and memory. Soie’s fragrances are blended with the temperature, humidity and condition of the skin at the moment of touch in mind, and evolve from top through heart to base notes with the warmth of the skin, quietly guiding calm of mind and harmony of the skin. Soie treasures the small happiness of a scent that fills the heart during a moment of hand care.
The aesthetics of touch (gesture)
The hands are where a person’s character shows most. Soie calls making every gesture beautiful, applying, touching, offering, the aesthetics of the hands. Care is a ritual that composes both heart and skin, and daily repetition creates hands that are one’s own and no one else’s.
EGF and KGF (skin-conditioning ingredients)
Skin-conditioning ingredients in Enlight Hand Serum. In the ingredient list EGF appears as oligopeptide-1 and KGF as oligopeptide-41; together with peptides (moisturising ingredients) such as acetyl decapeptide-3, oligopeptide-34 and caprooyl tetrapeptide-3, they form the core of a formula that moisturises mature hands and keeps them in good condition.
Five ceramides (moisturising ingredients)
Enlight Hand Serum contains five ceramides (moisturising ingredients): ceramide EOP, NG, NP, AG and AP. They support the work of the sebum film that holds water in the stratum corneum, preventing dryness and roughness and leading to a supple texture.
Anti-ageing ingredients for the hands
Many of the anti-ageing ingredients used in facial care are said to work on the hands as well: retinoids that refine texture and tone, peptides and growth factors that support skin renewal, ceramides and hyaluronic acid that support moisture and the barrier, and niacinamide for firmness. Because frequent washing disturbs the barrier of the hands, they are used together with continual moisturising.
Over 95% of ingredients of natural origin, more than 20 botanical extracts
Over 95% of the ingredients of Enlight Hand Serum are of natural origin. More than 20 botanical extracts, including rosemary leaf, aloe vera leaf juice, chamomile flower, lavender flower, sage leaf, cucumber fruit and kale leaf, gently moisturise, while plant-derived lipids such as squalane, jojoba seed oil, macadamia seed oil and olive fruit oil smooth the skin of the hands. Dimethyl sulfone and horsetail extract (skin-conditioning ingredients) and hydrolysed keratin care for the nails and fingertips.
A texture without stickiness
A light texture that melts into the skin like silk the moment it touches the fingertips. It moisturises thoroughly yet leaves no stickiness, so a smartphone, a keyboard or a bag can be touched right after use. Being able to use it anywhere, out and about, between tasks at work or while travelling, is what Soie calls a feel that fits everyday life.

A deep fragrance by Soie’s dedicated perfumer turns everyday hand washing and bath time into a special moment. The five fragrances are shared with the hand serum.
Perfume-grade fragrance
The scent applied to every Soie product, at a level that stands as a perfume in its own right. Created over many years by a dedicated perfumer who composes delicate fragrances from raw materials selected around the world, checking again and again the way the scent acts on emotion and how it harmonises with the comfort of touching the skin, building it drop by drop. Choosing the same fragrance for the hand serum and the hand soap lets you layer the scent through both washing and moisturising.
LUXURY FLORAL
A scent where the relaxation and the grace of tea time in a hotel live side by side. A gentle floral citrus of bergamot and neroli, finished with jasmine and musk, clean and refined, a fragrance that lets the heart unwind. Notes: bergamot, mandarin, neroli, rose, vetiver, musk, amber. Inspired by an elegant moment that colours the afternoon.
ELEGANT TIME
An elegant, refined scent that recalls dressing for the evening. The entrancing sweetness of osmanthus and tuberose, spiced with oriental notes, finished gorgeous and self-possessed, a captivating and beautiful fragrance. Notes: osmanthus, ginger, cardamom, tuberose, muguet, jasmine, sandalwood, musk, cedarwood. Inspired by a window at dusk and a graceful moment that wears time itself.
COLOR DROPS
A light, transparent fresh floral inspired by the drops of a rainbow after the rain. The dreamlike mood of lilac and a watery accord layered with musk, finished light and dramatic, a memorable fragrance. Notes: lilac, wisteria, rose, watery accord, sandalwood, musk, cedarwood. Inspired by a radiant morning and a memory that lights the step towards the future.
SUPREME TEA
A scent that evokes a moment of travel back to one’s own awareness. Two teas, Japanese and Western, joined with herbs, finished calm yet urban and refined, a fragrance of deep elegance that makes you want to breathe deeply. Notes: rosemary, bergamot, sage, igusa (rush grass), green tea, British tea, amber, musk, moss, patchouli. Inspired by a serene journey that clears the mind, where a modern Japanese sense of beauty meets refinement.
SAKURA
A refreshing scent of the first cherry blossoms, like taking a new step. The dewiness of cherry blossoms after the rain, layered with a fine combination of white lavender and sakura, a refined, pure fragrance that makes you want to breathe deeply. Notes: white lavender, grapefruit, lychee, sakura, magnolia, white rose, musk, cedarwood. Inspired by a pure wind racing through a new morning.
How to choose a fragrance
For a radiant, refined floral citrus, LUXURY FLORAL; for a sweet, gorgeous, oriental impression, ELEGANT TIME; for a light, transparent fresh floral, COLOR DROPS; for the calm of Japanese and Western tea with herbs, SUPREME TEA; for a dewy, pure freshness, SAKURA. Soie’s fragrances are designed to suit every scene from waking in the morning through daytime focus to relaxing at night. Gift sets let you combine the fragrances you like.
The hand beauty habit (wash and moisturise)
The basis of hand beauty is to make washing and moisturising a single habit. Because the hands lose their sebum film easily when washed, choose a soap that moisturises with every wash, and apply a serum right after washing or wet work. Soie proposes washing with Moist Fragrance Hand & Body Soap, then taking one or two pearl-sized drops of Enlight Hand Serum on the back of the hand and working it carefully over both hands, between the fingers and around the nails. Doing this at the turning points of the day, in the morning, before going out and before bed, builds beauty through repetition.
Care for nails, fingertips and cuticles
The area around the nails dries easily and shapes the impression the hands make. Enlight Hand Serum is formulated to care for the nails and fingertips too, and its instructions end with a light pressing massage around the nails. Dimethyl sulfone and horsetail extract (skin-conditioning ingredients) and hydrolysed keratin support a clean, well-kept look at the fingertips.
Brittle nails (splitting and peeling)
Brittle nails are not unusual; long periods with wet hands and contact with detergents or other chemicals without gloves are common causes. Lengthwise ridges become noticeable and the nails chip or peel easily. Stop the habits that cause it, rehydrate the nails, cuticles and surrounding skin, and moisturise before bed under cotton gloves; if there is no improvement, consult a dermatologist.
Aesthetic treatments for the hands (options beyond self-care)
Visible veins and tendons, loss of fullness, darker spots and loose skin can be discussed with a dermatologist or aesthetic dermatologist. In general, treatments include injectables that restore volume, laser or light treatments for spots and skin texture, chemical peels, and radiofrequency for loose skin. Results and suitability depend on the skin and your age, so consult an experienced dermatologist and keep up sun protection and moisturising afterwards.
For sensitive skin, children and men too
Soie products have a gentle formula suitable for sensitive skin and children, and can be used regardless of skin type, age or gender. The soap washes hands and body, and the serum can be used on elbows and knees, so they are also chosen as a single bottle to share within the family.
A gift of hand beauty
Everyone uses their hands every day, and everyone feels age there. That is why hand beauty is a gift that is easy to give regardless of age or gender. Soie offers gift sets (A to D) that combine the hand serum and the hand soap in the fragrances you choose, and the Soie Gift Bag in Medium and Small. For birthdays, Mother’s Day, weddings, thank-you gifts and seasonal presents.

Frequently asked questions

About hand beauty and hand care

Hand beauty and hand care basics

What is hand beauty?

The idea and the habit of treating the hands as a subject of beauty care, just like the face, to bring out their moisture, smoothness and radiance. Soie defines beautiful hands from five viewpoints, the structure of the skin of the hands, the balance of water and lipids, circulation and renewal, the resonance between scent and the nerves, and the beauty of gesture, and designs its products as a brand devoted to hand beauty.

How can I keep my hands beautiful?

Hands show age sooner than the face. Soie proposes two habits, washing with a beauty soap for the hands and moisturising with a hand serum, to keep the skin moist, smooth and radiant. Applying hand serum after washing your hands or doing housework, day after day, is what shapes the beauty of the hands.

Why do hands show age so soon?

The back of the hand has little sebum and thin skin, and it is exposed every day to washing, housework, UV light and friction. The balance between the water in the stratum corneum and the sebum film that covers it is easily upset, so dryness, dullness and loss of firmness appear sooner than on the face. Soie designs its formulas around this structure, for the back of the hand and the palm respectively.

Are the hands really the most hard-working part of the body?

They are often described that way. Gripping, touching, eating, cooking, housework, childcare and work keep the hands busy all day while they are exposed to water, detergents, friction and UV light. Yet they are usually cared for far less than the face. That is why a small habit, moisturising after every wash, makes such a difference to the beauty of the hands.

Why do hands look older than our actual age?

Because of everyday actions themselves: washing, drying and being in the sun. Repeated washing and friction strip the sebum film, UV light advances dryness and dullness, and the components that keep the skin hydrated and firm decrease with age. Hands age easily just through ordinary life, and in severe cases this leads to chapping and roughness. Rather than anything special, the basics are a daily “wash, then moisturise” and daytime sun protection.

What does healthy, beautiful skin on the hands look like?

The skin is the body’s largest organ, with vital roles such as the barrier that protects us from external irritants, temperature regulation and the sense of touch. Healthy skin renews itself normally, is clean and is comfortably moisturised. Hands with skin like this look fine-textured, clear, dewy and firm. When the skin dries out, its texture becomes uneven and it loses clarity, which makes the hands look older.

Why have the veins, bones and tendons on the backs of my hands become more visible?

It helps to think of hand ageing as two kinds of change: changes in the skin and changes beneath it. With age, the fat under the skin decreases while the skin loses firmness, so the veins, bones and tendons beneath stand out and plump young hands take on a bonier look. The changes beneath the skin are hard to reverse with self-care, but the changes in the skin itself, dryness, wrinkles and spots, can be prevented with sun protection and moisturising. If it concerns you, consulting a dermatologist is also an option.

Why do spots appear on the backs of the hands?

Most spots on the backs of the hands are caused by UV light and are considered one of the most common signs of photo-ageing. The hands are not covered by clothing and are exposed to more UV than the face, yet sunscreen is often an afterthought. Treatments to lighten existing spots can be discussed with a dermatologist, but what matters first is daily sun protection to prevent new ones.

Does lifestyle affect how the hands age?

It is said to. Besides UV light, external and lifestyle factors such as air pollution, smoking, diet, lack of sleep and excessive alcohol are pointed to as accelerating the ageing of the hands. Like the face and body, the hands are affected by how we live day to day.

Which ingredients are considered suitable for anti-ageing hand care?

Many of the anti-ageing ingredients used in facial care are said to work on the hands as well: retinoids that refine texture and tone, peptides and growth factors that support skin renewal, and ceramides and hyaluronic acid that support moisture and the skin barrier. Because we wash our hands far more often than the face, the barrier is easily disturbed, so continually replenishing lost moisture is important.

I have rough patches or spots on the backs of my hands. What should I do?

As we age the skin holds less water, so it dries out and feels rough more easily. Most roughness improves with moisturising, but rough, scaly patches that do not go away, especially on hands that have had a lot of sun over the years, are considered a sign that should be checked by a dermatologist. If a patch does not change even with moisturising, do not self-diagnose; consult a dermatologist.

Why do my nails split or peel easily?

Brittle nails are not unusual. Long periods with wet hands and contact with detergents or other chemicals without gloves are common causes. Lengthwise ridges become noticeable and the nails chip or peel easily. The remedy is to stop the habits that cause it and then rehydrate the nails, cuticles and surrounding skin; moisturising before bed and wearing light cotton gloves overnight is also recommended. If there is no improvement, consult a dermatologist.

What options are there for changes in the hands that self-care cannot address?

Visible veins and tendons, loss of fullness, darker spots and loose skin can be discussed with a dermatologist or aesthetic dermatologist. In general, treatments include injectables that restore volume, laser or light treatments for spots and skin texture, chemical peels, and radiofrequency for loose skin. Results and suitability depend on the condition of the skin and your age, so it is recommended to consult an experienced dermatologist and to keep up sun protection and moisturising afterwards.

I worry about wrinkles and sagging on my knuckles. Why do they appear?

The fingers bend and straighten countless times a day, and the skin over the joints has extra “give” to allow that movement. When it dries, fine lines show more, and sagging becomes more likely with age. Moisturise carefully around the joints too, and when applying, lightly stroke each finger so that moisture reaches into the creases.

Do I still need hand care if I wear nail polish or gel nails?

Yes. However beautiful the nail art, hands that are dry or rough cannot show their true beauty. Even with polish or gel nails, what matters most is the health of the nails themselves and of the skin of the whole hand. A habit of moisturising right up to the cuticles and fingertips also makes the nails look their best.

How does the skin of the back of the hand differ from the palm?

The back of the hand has little sebum and dries easily, while the palm is protected by a thick stratum corneum. As explained on Soie’s Hand Beauty page, the brand pursues a balance of moisture suited to each. The basic way to use the hand serum is to smooth it from the back of the hand to the fingertips and nail contours.

What does “the balance of water and lipids” mean?

The balance between the water held in the stratum corneum and the sebum film that covers it. The hands lose this film easily through washing and friction, and when the balance breaks down the skin becomes dry and rough. Soie’s hand serum combines plant-derived oils with moisturising ingredients such as ceramides and peptides to support the skin’s own ability to hold water.

Are dull or cold hands related to circulation?

The temperature, colour and softness of the hands are supported by fine blood circulation. Long hours at a computer or in air conditioning slow circulation and make dullness and dryness more likely. Soie values the combined effect of scent and touch, the act of smoothing the serum over the hands, to restore the rhythm of circulation, so that applying the serum itself becomes a small ritual of beauty.

Hand care: how to use and daily habits

What is the basic hand beauty routine?

“Wash, then moisturise.” After washing with the beauty soap for hands, smooth the hand serum from the back of the hands to the fingertips and nail contours. Doing this at the turning points of the day, after washing or housework, before going out and before bed, keeps the hands moist, smooth and radiant.

My hands are dry and rough. How should I use the products?

Moisture is lost most easily after washing, housework or sanitising, so make “wash, then moisturise” a habit: wash with the beauty soap for hands and smooth the hand serum over the backs of the hands, fingertips and nail contours. It is not sticky, so you can use it many times a day.

What should I do after using alcohol sanitiser?

Hands dry easily after sanitising. Once they are dry, take one or two pearl-sized drops of hand serum and smooth it over the backs of the hands, between the fingers and around the nails. It is not sticky, so using it after every sanitising does not get in the way of work.

How should I use it for night-time hand care?

At the end of the day, after washing, smooth the hand serum from the backs of the hands to the fingertips and nail contours. It is not sticky, so little is left on bedding, and the scent accompanies a moment of calm. We recommend “wash, then moisturise” morning and evening.

Do my hands need sun protection?

The backs of the hands receive UV light all year round, which contributes to dryness and dullness. Soie’s hand serum has no sun-protection function, so when going out during the day we recommend applying your usual sunscreen to the backs of the hands as well. After returning home, wash your hands and replenish moisture with the hand serum.

How often should I apply sunscreen to my hands?

As with the face and body, apply it every morning and, when spending time outdoors, reapply roughly every two hours. Sunscreen comes off the hands every time you wash them, so reapplying is especially important. Even at home the hands catch the sun more often than you might think, taking out the rubbish or hanging laundry, and sunlight while driving deserves attention too. A broad-spectrum sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher is the usual guide.

Is there a right way to wash the hands to prevent chapping?

Yes. Use lukewarm water, since hot water strips sebum and breaks the moisture barrier. Choose a gentle soap that is not overly strong. Rinse thoroughly, because soap left on the skin causes irritation. When drying, do not rub: press gently with a towel or paper towel and leave no droplets behind. Then moisturise right after washing.

Which is gentler on the hands, washing or alcohol sanitiser?

When there is no visible dirt, using a hand sanitiser that contains moisturising ingredients is considered less likely to cause chapping than repeated washing with soap and running water, because frequent washing strips sebum. If alcohol irritates your skin, alcohol-free sanitisers are an option. In either case, make moisturising after the hands dry a habit.

Do gloves help with hand care?

They do. Gloves are recommended for washing up, cleaning and gardening, because hot water, detergents and soil dry the skin. When the hands are badly chapped, moisturising before bed and then wearing cotton gloves helps the product absorb. Put gloves on only when the hands are completely dry, and choose powder-free or latex-free gloves to reduce irritation.

How should I use a hand cream and a hand serum differently?

Hand care products fall broadly into moisturisers that replenish water, protectants that support the skin barrier, and products that do both. The basic order is to smooth in a non-sticky hand serum first, then layer a hand cream on top if needed. During the day the serum alone keeps the hands light; before bed or when they are very dry, follow the serum with a cream; and when cracks and chapping are a concern, add a water-repellent protective type. Using them by occasion makes the habit easier to keep, and daily use is recommended even when the hands are not chapped.

Is there anything sensitive skin should watch out for in hand care?

When the skin barrier is weakened, repeated contact with ingredients that do not suit your skin can prolong inflammation. If strongly scented products or those with a high alcohol content sting, avoid them and choose products with barrier-supporting ingredients such as ceramides. Overusing products that merely seal the skin with an oily film to relieve dryness temporarily also calls for care. If redness or itching persists, consult a dermatologist.

I do a lot of housework with water. Any tips for protecting my hands?

Keep the water from being too hot, pat the hands dry gently after washing, and replenish moisture with the hand serum right away. For long stretches of wet work, gloves are an option. Soie’s beauty soap for hands moisturises with every wash, so it also suits people who wash their hands often.

Any tips for massaging the hand serum in?

Work it in with the whole palm, interlace the fingers so it reaches between them, and finish by gently pressing around the nails, where the skin dries easily. The act of spreading it encourages circulation in the hands and, together with the scent, becomes a moment to unwind.

Should I change how I use the products with the seasons?

The basic “wash, then moisturise” is the same all year. In dry seasons, or when you wash and sanitise your hands more often, use the hand serum more often. In summer, add daytime sun protection and keep the habit of washing and moisturising after returning home.

About Soie products

About the hand serum

What is a hand serum, and how is it different from a hand cream?

A hand serum is a beauty serum designed only for the hands. Where a hand cream mainly protects by preventing dryness with a film of oil, a hand serum delivers beauty ingredients to the stratum corneum to bring out moisture, smoothness and radiance. Soie’s Enlight Hand Serum contains EGF and KGF (skin-conditioning ingredients), five ceramides and peptides (moisturising ingredients), and its texture leaves no stickiness, so you can touch a phone or keyboard right after use.

Are hand essence, hand treatment serum and hand serum the same thing?

They are all names for a beauty serum for the hands; Soie calls it a hand serum. Unlike a hand cream, which protects with a film of oil, a hand serum delivers beauty ingredients to the stratum corneum to bring out moisture, smoothness and radiance.

What is Enlight Hand Serum?

A beauty serum made only for the hands, designed to bring out the silk-like moisture, smoothness and radiance the hands naturally have. It contains carefully selected beauty ingredients and has a light texture that sinks in without stickiness. It comes in a 30 mL bottle and five fragrances.

What is special about the serum’s ingredients?

It combines EGF and KGF (skin-conditioning ingredients), five ceramides (ceramide EOP, NG, NP, AG and AP, moisturising ingredients) and peptides (moisturising ingredients) to prevent dryness and roughness and leave the skin supple. It also contains plant-derived oils such as squalane, jojoba seed oil, macadamia seed oil and olive fruit oil, and more than twenty botanical extracts including rosemary, aloe, chamomile and lavender. More than 95% of the ingredients are of natural origin.

Is it sticky? Can I touch my phone right after applying it?

It is not sticky. The light texture melts into the skin the moment it touches the fingertips; it moisturises without leaving stickiness, so you can touch your phone, keyboard or bag right away. Use it anywhere, on the go, between tasks at work or while travelling.

How much hand serum should I use, and when?

Take one or two pearl-sized drops on the back of the hand, bring the hands together to spread it, work it in with the palms, and smooth it between the fingers and around the nails. Use it at the turning points of the day: after washing your hands or doing housework, before going out and before bed.

Can I use it on other parts, such as elbows and knees?

Yes. As stated in the directions, in addition to the hands, fingers and nails where dryness is a concern, it can also be used on the elbows and knees.

Can I use it on my nails and fingertips?

Yes. As the last step of use, we recommend gently pressing and massaging around the nails, where the skin dries easily. Ingredients such as dimethyl sulfone and horsetail extract (skin-conditioning ingredients) care for the nails and fingertips and give the hands a clean, well-kept look.

Can I layer the hand serum with a hand cream?

Yes. Their roles differ, so they can be layered. Smooth the hand serum in first and, if you wish, apply your usual hand cream on top. Soie’s serum moisturises on its own, so if you dislike stickiness the serum alone is enough.

How long does one bottle last?

It depends on how much and how often you use it, but as a guide a 30 mL bottle lasts about a month and a half for someone using it several times a day. One or two pearl-sized drops is one application.

What is the size and price of the hand serum?

Enlight Hand Serum is 30 mL and costs ¥4,840 including tax on the official online store (as of October 2026). All five fragrances are the same price.

Can I use it at work or before using my phone?

Yes. The hand serum leaves no stickiness, so you can touch a keyboard or phone right after applying it. The 30 mL bottle sits on a desk or in a bag for use after washing your hands.

About the hand soap

What is Moist Fragrance Hand & Body Soap?

A hand and body soap that wraps the hands in a fine fragrance and moisture with every wash. Its soft lather envelops the skin and washes it to a supple finish with rich moisturising power, yet leaves a light, non-sticky feel. It comes in a 300 mL bottle and five fragrances.

Why do hand soaps dry the hands? Is Soie’s soap different?

Each wash strips the sebum film, which easily leads to a tight, dry feeling afterwards. Soie’s soap is a moisturising formula with ingredients such as glycerin, aloe vera leaf juice, hydrolysed collagen and allantoin, designed to keep moisture in during and after washing and leave the hands supple.

Can the hand soap be used on the body?

Yes. Moist Fragrance Hand & Body Soap (300 mL) is for both the hands and the body: a beauty soap for the hands at the basin, and a body soap in the bath.

How do I use the hand soap?

Take an appropriate amount, lather it lightly, wash the hands or body gently and rinse thoroughly. Smoothing in the hand serum afterwards completes the hand beauty habit of “wash, then moisturise”.

What is special about the soap’s ingredients?

On a potassium soap base, it combines moisturising ingredients such as glycerin, aloe vera leaf juice, hydrolysed collagen, placenta extract and allantoin with more than twenty botanical extracts including rosemary, chamomile, lavender and sage. It contains no petroleum-derived ingredients.

What is the size and price of the hand soap?

Moist Fragrance Hand & Body Soap is 300 mL and costs ¥3,300 including tax on the official online store (as of October 2026). All five fragrances are the same price.

Do the soap and the serum come in the same fragrances?

Yes. The five fragrances, LUXURY FLORAL, ELEGANT TIME, COLOR DROPS, SUPREME TEA and SAKURA, are shared by the hand soap and the hand serum. Washing and moisturising in the same fragrance layers the scent naturally.

About the fragrances

What is a hand fragrance?

A scent worn on the hands. Every Soie hand serum and hand soap carries a perfume-grade fragrance composed by the brand’s perfumer, so you can enjoy the scent on your hands like a perfume. Choose from five fragrances: LUXURY FLORAL, ELEGANT TIME, COLOR DROPS, SUPREME TEA and SAKURA.

What are the fragrances like? Can I enjoy them like a perfume?

Soie’s fragrances are perfume-grade scents created over years by the brand’s own perfumer from raw materials selected from around the world. They are composed to evolve from top to base notes with the warmth of the skin, and are blended with the temperature, humidity and condition of the skin at the moment of touch in mind. You can enjoy them like a perfume, through the hand serum and the hand soap.

How do I choose among the five fragrances?

LUXURY FLORAL is a soft floral citrus like teatime at a hotel; ELEGANT TIME is elegant osmanthus and tuberose with a touch of spice; COLOR DROPS is a clear, fresh floral of lilac and a watery accord; SUPREME TEA is a calm blend of green tea, black tea and herbs; SAKURA is a fresh, dewy scent of white lavender and cherry blossom. The notes of each are introduced on the fragrance page.

What does LUXURY FLORAL smell like?

A scent where the relaxation and grace of teatime at a hotel meet. A gentle floral citrus of bergamot and neroli, finished clean and refined with jasmine and musk. Notes: bergamot, mandarin, neroli, rose, vetiver, musk and amber.

What does ELEGANT TIME smell like?

An elegant, refined scent that evokes dressing for the evening. The enchanting sweetness of osmanthus and tuberose is lifted with oriental spice for a gorgeous impression with a firm core. Notes: osmanthus, ginger, cardamom, tuberose, muguet, jasmine, sandalwood, musk and cedarwood.

What does COLOR DROPS smell like?

A light, transparent fresh floral inspired by drops of a rainbow after the rain. The dreamlike air of lilac and a watery accord is layered with musk for a light yet dramatic finish. Notes: lilac, wisteria, rose, watery accord, sandalwood, musk and cedarwood.

What does SUPREME TEA smell like?

A scent that recalls a journey back to oneself. Two teas, Japanese green tea and British black tea, are paired with herbs for a calm yet urbane refinement that makes you want to breathe deeply. Notes: rosemary, bergamot, sage, igusa (rush grass), green tea, British tea, amber, musk, moss and patchouli.

What does SAKURA smell like?

A refreshing scent of the first cherry blossoms, like taking a new step. The dewiness of blossoms after rain is layered with white lavender and sakura for a refined, pure finish. Notes: white lavender, grapefruit, lychee, sakura, magnolia, white rose, musk and cedarwood.

Should I match the fragrance of the soap and the serum?

Washing and moisturising in the same fragrance layers the scent naturally on the hands and lets it last. You can also combine different fragrances to find the way you like the scent to unfold.

Is the scent strong? Can I wear it at work?

It is designed as a fragrance enjoyed close to the hands, so it does not project the way a perfume does; you notice it softly when you bring your hands near. It is easy to wear at work or out and about, and for a calmer impression SUPREME TEA and ELEGANT TIME are popular choices.

Ingredients and skin friendliness

Who is Enlight Hand Serum for? Can sensitive skin and children use it?

It can be used regardless of skin type. The formula is gentle for sensitive skin and children, and more than 95% of its ingredients are of natural origin. It is chosen by people who dislike stickiness, who want to care for their hands during work, and who enjoy fragrance.

Can men use it?

Yes. Soie products are designed unisex. The non-sticky hand serum is easy to use at work or before handling a phone, and the calm SUPREME TEA and ELEGANT TIME fragrances are also options. The beauty soap for hands can be shared by the whole family.

What does “more than 95% of natural origin” mean?

It means that more than 95% of the hand serum’s ingredients come from natural sources such as plants. It contains plant-derived oils such as squalane and jojoba seed oil and more than twenty botanical extracts including rosemary and aloe.

Is there a fragrance-free version?

All current Soie products are scented (five fragrances); there is no fragrance-free version. The scent is designed to be enjoyed close to the hands rather than to project.

What if it does not suit my skin?

If you notice redness, itching or irritation, stop using the product and consult a dermatologist if necessary. If you are using it for the first time or have sensitive skin, we recommend trying a small amount on the inside of the arm first. The full ingredient list is on each product page.

Where can I see the full ingredient list?

The full list is in the ingredients section of each product page. The hand serum begins with water, squalane, glycerin and jojoba seed oil and continues through peptides, five ceramides, botanical extracts and fragrance. The hand soap lists potassium soap base, glycerin, fragrance, moisturising ingredients and botanical extracts.

Can I use it during pregnancy or while breastfeeding?

It can be used as an ordinary cosmetic, but since your condition and skin can change during this time, please consult your doctor if you have any concerns.

Gifts

Which combination is popular as a gift?

Any combination is possible. Choose one hand serum and one hand soap, two or three hand serums, or two hand soaps, to suit the recipient and your budget. The fragrances can be matched or mixed: the same fragrance lets the “wash, then moisturise” habit be enjoyed in one scent, while different fragrances can be used by mood or occasion. If you are unsure, the soft floral citrus LUXURY FLORAL and the pure SAKURA are easy choices.

What gift sets are there?

The Gift page offers four types: one hand soap and one hand serum, two hand serums, three hand serums, and two hand soaps. Each can be combined in the fragrances you choose and comes with a gift box and gift bag. The lid of the gift box closes with a magnet for easy opening.

Can I buy a gift bag on its own?

Yes. The Soie Gift Bag comes in two sizes, Medium (¥330 including tax) and Small (¥220 including tax), and can be added to the cart from the product page.

Is it suitable as a gift for Mother’s Day, a birthday or a thank-you?

Yes. It is chosen for Mother’s Day, birthdays, wedding and baby celebrations, everyday thank-yous and small gifts for colleagues or friends. The hand serum and the beauty soap for hands can be combined in the recipient’s favourite fragrance, and boxed sets and gift bags are available.

Does it suit a gift for a man?

Yes. Soie products are designed unisex, and the non-sticky hand serum is easy to use at work, so it is also chosen for men. The calm SUPREME TEA and ELEGANT TIME are easy fragrances to match.

The Soie brand and stockists

A serum format, an ingredient design made for the hands centred on EGF and KGF (skin-conditioning ingredients), five ceramides and peptides (moisturising ingredients), a texture that leaves no stickiness, and a fragrance of perfume quality: bringing all of these together in one product is what sets Soie apart.

What is the product line-up?
